Where can we eat in Kamloops and the surrounding areas?
We came from a city on the coast and now we live inland. We came from a place where hole-in-the-wall, authentic ethnic cuisine reigned supreme, to a land where chain restaurants and dodgy dives flourish. This blog is to chronicle our culinary adventures in region that seems to be a culinary wasteland.

Nayaab Fine Indian Cuisine - Kamloops, BC

**UPDATE: September 2012 Nayaab Fine Indian is now closed. Cornerstone Sushi and Korean BBQ now occupies this space.**

After the original owner of Spice A Taste of Indian Cuisine sold his Northshore restaurant, he went on the hunt for a new project. This is the finished product: Nayaab Fine Indian Cuisine on Seymour Street near 6th Avenue. DL caught wind of this new Indian Restaurant via A.L.

A Touch of Europe Café - Chilliwack, BC

***UPDATE 2013: Touch of Europe is gone now :(, Michelle's Café currently occupies this space serving Chinese food***

Homebound, we make a pit stop in Chilliwack for breakfast this morning. A Touch of Europe is a little café on Luckakuck Way among a cluster of businesses that include the BCAA and McGavin’s Bread Basket.

Now before we get to breakfast, tell me, what’s going on here?

Downtown Echo Newspaper - Kamloops, BC

Extra! Extra! Read all about it.

Thank you Downtown Echo for the front page feature. What a delightful surprise this morning!

Damien's Belgian Waffles Ltd. - Steveston, BC

I’m having a quick breakfast at Damien’s Belgian Waffles in Steveston Village this morning. It’s a tiny little waffle factory located in Chatham Plaza on Chatham Street. (And by “quick breakfast” I mean much, much less than two hours. This will make sense later...) It’s a bit DDE when I scan the strip mall, but once I head inside, the waffle aroma makes me forget about the exterior.

The Crab King - Steveston, BC

I’m at The Crab King today.
I came home, briefly, and now I find myself back in Steveston? I did not plan this. So here I am, again. The weather is crisp and sunny this afternoon. There are people milling about in flip flops! Now, that’s a bit extreme. It’s warmer than winter, but it’s not flip-flop warm.

Romania Country Bread (Storybrooke Bakery) - Steveston Village,BC

Once, or twice, Upon a Time...those two geeks are still in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine. When Steveston Village transforms for filming, the Romania Country Bread shop becomes Storybrooke Country Bread. The exterior signage for the fictional bakery remains up.

The Cannery Cafe (Granny's Diner) - Steveston Village, BC

Once Upon a Time... there were two geeks. One was far geekier than the other, and wanted to visit the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine.
I haven’t been to Steveston for over a year and I forgot how quaint this area is. Finding parking and browsing the shops is painless at this time of year too, as the village isn’t as crowded as it seems to be during the summer months.

City 1 Café - Vancouver, BC

I am in Vancouver for several days attending a conference for work. I’m hankering for some Hainanese Chicken Rice. I also want some bubble tea when I’m done, so I set my sights on City 1 Café on the corner of Oak Street and King Ed. City 1 Café is conveniently kitty corner to Dragon Ball Tea House.

Tiger Ramen - Kamloops, BC

Tiger Ramen is a ramen joint in Kamloops.

Isn’t it great to be able to say that? Let’s say it again: Tiger Ramen is a ramen joint in Kamloops.
I had been doing not so convenient drive-bys, on a regular basis for weeks in anticipation of Tiger Ramen’s opening. The last time I did multiple drive-bys and Peeping Tom Dances in front of a yet-to-be opened eatery, was last summer waiting for the Ploughman’s Lunch and Coffee to open.

Sweet Home Café - Kamloops, BC

The Sweet Home Café is a small soup and sandwich type of place. The main draw for parents is that Sweet Home Café offers a supervised play area for small children. The restaurant is small, but the space is defined. On one end of the restaurant, there is the play area and on the other end there is a living room-like lounge space. In the middle, joining the play and lounge spaces, is the café dining area.
