This event happened quite a while back, however I hadn't gotten around to blogging about it. This was Day 100 of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. It was scheduled to come through the communities of Cache Creek and Ashcroft. Ashcroft had a little community get together in their downtown core.

It involved various entertainment throughout the day. They also provided snacks and that's what I'll comment on in this instalment of Love of Eating.
The event provided the public with a hotdog and a hot chocolate. As with all freebies there was a line up.

The hot chocolate was as predicted good ol' Carnation Hot Chocolate. They boiled up a huge caldron of it and ladled it out.

The weather was cold, so it was nice to have a warm drink in hand.
Here's the hotdog chef at the helm... ;)

This is the relish station.

I don't know who donated or purchased the relish but something was not very efficient about it. You know those single use packets of relish you get at cafeterias? They had boxes and boxes of those packets and some poor soul had to methodically snip each open (note the scissors on the table) and squeeze each packet into this bowl!!! Whaah??? I'm not sure why they didn't just put out the box of packets and let the public just squeeze their own onto the mystery meat. There was a huge pile of hundreds of these empty packets in the garbage can adjacent to the condiment table. I wonder how long it took to just get this bowl full?? I decided I didn't want their hard work to be in vain, so I put a scoop onto my dog.
The hotdogs tasted like commercial hotdogs. Not much more can be said there. Oddly, the hotdogs were comically short. They were the length of 2 cocktail wieners! The bun looked gigantic in comparison. The bread to dog ratio was a bit too much; I didn't bother trying to eat the bun.

It was a nice little community event with a good turn out. We took off early before it got too crowded.
