My tomato seeds arrived from Sunshine Farm! I’m pretty excited, so I must share this with you.
I’m such a wannabe gardener...
As you may have deduced from some of my previous garden posts, my adventures in gardening are largely trial and error. Last year, I planted some seedlings from the Farmers Market, but I also tried growing tomatoes from seed. Amazingly, my brown thumbs proved successful in starting tomatoes from seed. This year I wanted to try some more interesting varieties.

I never seem to be able to make it to Kamloops Seedy Saturday seed swap at Sahali Mall. I miss it each year. This year Seedy Saturday has already happened three times at Sahali Mall (February 2nd and 16th and March 2nd.) I missed all three seedy occasions, but there is one left this coming Saturday on March 16th. Will you be there?
To insure I have some seeds to start this year, I order six tomato varieties from Sunshine Farm in Kelowna.

Purple Smudge Tomato Seeds ($3.25)

I’m obsessed with dark tomatoes. I’ve grown Black Krim and Cherokee Purple in the past so I thought I’d try some smaller purple tomatoes. Oh, and any tomato described as “prolific” is okay with me.

Nyagous Tomato Seeds ($3.25)

This is a Russian black tomato. I picked the Nyagous because it sounds like it would be a relatively early tomato. I get so impatient waiting for my tomatoes.

Voyage (Reisetomate) Tomato Seeds ($3.25)

Isn’t this wild? These tomatoes are also known as Reisetomate Tomatoes. It was the crazy cluster shape of the Voyage tomato that made me want to try it. Doesn’t it look like a microscopic view of a glycine molecule or some other amino acid?

Isis Candy Tomato Seeds ($3.25)

I totally ordered this tomato purely because of the name.

Noire de Cose Boeuf Tomato Seeds ($3.25)

I love a good beefsteak tomato. I think it will be interesting to try a smaller variety.

Indigo Rose Tomato Seeds ($3.25)

Look at how dark these are!! They look like plums, no? I wonder how they will taste.

Last fall I also attempted to save seeds. I saved the seeds from my Black Krim, and I’m curious if those seeds will sprout successfully this Spring. We shall see.

Have any of you tried these varietals in your garden? These tomatoes are all new to me, and that’s part of the reason why I’m so stoked for the coming gardening season.
When do you start your tomato seeds? I can’t remember when I started mine last Spring (I really need to start writing these details down...)
What the heck, I’m going to start my seeds this week. Here I go again with trial and error.
What are you planting in your garden this year?
