Long's Noodle House 小龍記麵家 on Urbanspoon

Needing a quick snack we stop into Long’s Noodle House. Coming off of a long ferry ride, having some food at Long’s Noodle House is a welcome break. Have you subjected yourself to BC Ferries lately? The fares are crazy.

We decide to just get some old standby dishes, before heading out to complete some evening tasks in Vancouver.

Wine Chicken ($6.95)

The price has been slowly creeping up on this pot of poultry over the years. It seems like not long ago I was ordering it for $4.95. Don’t I sound like a grandparent reminiscing when chocolate bars were “only a nickel?” Anyways, the cold wine soaked chicken is still as meaty and plentiful as it always has been.

Spicy Pigs Ears ($5.50)

You have to like cartilage-y things to like pigs’ ears. Crunchy, spicy and a little chewy. You can buy spicy pigs ears at most Asian delis, the same way one would buy macaroni salad.

Xiao Long Baos or Steamed Juicy Pork Buns ($4.95)

How can one have Shanghainese food and not order xiao long baos? Long’s juicy pork buns have always been pretty good. No exception today. The skin is marginally thicker than some, but the filling is flavourful. There is only one stuck to the basket wall that had to be torn away, expelling its juices.

Spicy Beef Noodle Soup ($6.95)

I must be craving soupy noodles because this is my favourite at the table today. The broth is nice and spicy without masking the taste of the tender beef.

Longs Noodle House is busy. I’m glad we got here when we did because in less than 10 minutes after placing our order, there was a line up. We always receive wonderful service from Longs Noodle House. It’s always been the same server, and she has the dining room running like a well oiled machine. Super efficient and friendly too. See, it is possible.
