Grand Bay Cafe' review by Lvoe

I'm a recent foodie transplant from Vancouver who lives in Kelowna and I have to disagree with her? review. The Grand Bay Cafe' is by far one of the best buffet values available. Year after year it's voted the best in the city by local media outlets. I've eaten the brunch a half dozen times and have never been disappointed.

I agree that the shrimp dumpling isn't up to Kirin's (@12th & Cambie) standards but you'll find the shrimp takes up the whole inside of the wrapper (it's not too doughy) and is quite large & tasty (dipping sauce is usually the seasoning for these types of bites.) If you like Hon's you'll like this.

The Eggs Benny is a hit n miss. It needs to be fresh. Crispy english muffins are no fun to saw through.

I've always had rare beef at the carving station (my pref.) and the omellete station is a nice touch. The sushi is fresh. Basic (rolls & nigiri) but tasty.

The cheese & charcuterie section is high quality and worth a stop.

The apple juice is pressed locally but the orange juice is ( I believe) Tropicana (not fresh). I asked.

By far this is a very good value for $ buffet. As good, or better, as I've found overseas in Asia for the same $.
