Some time ago, in my post about The Press Box/ Zhen Zhen Restaurant, I had mentioned that prior to my meal I needed to pick up some cat food. Some of you were curious about what kind of food I feed my beast.

Well, she eats Orijen Cat and Kitten dry cat food. She was eating Orijen's “limited supply” 6 Fish formula for awhile, but I decided I’m too cheap to pay the extra 5 bucks for the exclusive flavour. I made the change to Orijen several years ago when I was researching Canadian made pet foods. I wanted to have the benefits of a raw diet; with the convenience of a kibble. A real raw diet was out of the question. Sorry lil’ beast, but I’m too lazy.

I don’t know if she likes it any more or less than other dry kibble she’s had in her lifetime, but her coat is by far shinier than it has ever been. The actual size of the morsels are slightly smaller than some of the other brands we've tried over the years and I've noticed not as many broken pieces fall out of her mouth while she's crunching away. This makes for less clean up for me. There's literature that says animals will eat less when there’s more “quality protein," because they will become satiated with the protein versus the filler products in the food. I haven’t noticed this difference in my beast; she eats just as much Orijen as she did her Iams. She’s a bit of an oinker however, and gets visibly stressed when she can see the bottom of her bowl.
At one time she weighed in at 14kg. Yeah, that’s no typo, 14 Kill.Low.Grams. That’s just less than 30 pounds!! I thought something was wrong with the scale at the veterinary office. This cannot be possible. The beast is very fluffy. It’s just fluff.
I had her re-weighed by 3 different vet staff on 3 different scales. Dr. R labeled her morbidly obese in her file. The doctor couldn't perform a routine physical exam because she "couldn’t feel the beast's ribs, let alone her internal organs." Oh dear. The lil' beast went on a weight control diet straight away. It took a little over a year for her to lose the extra pounds. That was years ago. She is now a svelte 13 pounds. She was already a normal weight by the time we put her on Orijen.
What do you feed your pets? Life's short. We should eat good food. I believe this is true for our pets too.
