Red Velvet cake

Hi Anon,
Good ol' food colouring is what gives the striking red colour in most recipes for Red Velvet. Sometimes you can find recipes that use beet powder, or beet juice but the red colour is no where near as striking. The combination of vinegar and cocoa also lends a hand in making it red.
I have no issues with eating food enhanced with colouring. We do it all the time in food we eat, often unknowingly. But I find it a bit strange for me to be the one deliberately adding it to my food. That's why I rarely make coloured frosting at home too.
