Kamloops

Donair Express - Kamloops, BC

Is this for real? Is the donair really Canadian? Apparently back in the '70s someone in Halifax put some "sweet sauce" on a gyros and a donair was born. I have no idea if this is accurate.

The Noble Pig Brewhouse - Kamloops, BC

This was a drive-by discovery. We were coming back through town after buying some plant pots at Art Knapp and happen to drive down this end of Victoria Street.

Chilli King - Kamloops, BC

Chilli King is a Malaysian restaurant located in the same shopping complex as the Canadian Tire on Hillside Drive. The space at one time was a seafood market; there are still some "fresh halibut" signs in the window and a nautical theme inside.

Victoria Oriental Restaurant: Dim Sum - Kamloops, BC

I've been watching the renovations of this DDE since Spring. It was a dodgy looking place for a while, and then all of a sudden there was sprucing up going on. I thought it was just getting a face lift on the outside and I totally expected it to still be dodgy on the inside...I was so wrong.

Amsterdam Breakfast and Lunch Original Dutch Pancakes - Kamloops, BC

The air was filled with smoke this morning when we arrived at the pannekoek house. In the photos it looks like it is an overcast wintery day, but that's smoke my friends. BC is burning this summer (well sadly it burns every summer.)

Brownstone Restaurant - Kamloops, BC

Ah the Brownstone Restaurant. I've noticed that locals like to recommend this restaurant when "out of towners" come through Kamloops. Is it really because the food is good, or is it because there's no where else to recommend unless it's a chain restaurant?

Vyanjan Fine Indian Cuisine - Kamloops, BC

madisens - Kamloops, BC

Went to madisens for Mitchell Shafer's weekend menu. This restaurant is located at the South Thompson Inn Guest Ranch and Conference Centre in Kamloops, BC.

Double Dare Establishments

Y'know those restaurants that you drive by on some road trip, and you think to yourself, "Argh, I wonder how is the food there?" (often assuming it's bad...) or "Seriously, does anybody eat there?" The places when even if you're starving after driving for hours (and skipping a meal to make better driving time), you think, "um...hellz no, I'm not eating there!"

These places are Double Dare Establishments. For the purposes of this blog I will make an effort to pull over and try some of these places and blog about them. Don't get me wrong I do have a genuine curiosity about these places, and I am looking forward to seeing what they have to offer.

Spice: A Taste of Indian Cuisine - Kamloops, BC

I ended up here at Spice after a second failed attempt to eat at Vyanjan. I decided not wait an hour for Vyanjan to open and looked for eats elsewhere. One of us remembered vaguely a commercial about a South Asian restaurant on the north side of the river. We basically drove around until we spotted it. Kamloops, my friends, is not all that big.
