Laura's Pies at Gourmet Greens - Kamloops, BC

While standing in line at the check out at Gourmet Greens Produce Market, I peer into the freezer display. What do I find? Pie. That’s what.

Laura's Pies is a little pie company based in Salmon Arm. Laura Peterson makes her homemade pies with much of the bounty from A&L Peterson Orchards, which is part of the Peterson Brothers Heritage Orchards in Salmon Arm. Do you know of the Peterson Brothers Orchards? What a rich history they have in the BC interior. This past September the Ministry of Agriculture presented the Peterson Family Farm with the Century Farm Award.

Amy's Fiesta Mart - Kamloops, BC

Amy’s Fiesta Mart. Have you been? It’s a Filipino grocery store located in Kamloops northshore. I notice it as I am whizzing southbound on Fortune Drive. My first thought is, “Pandesal!”

I make a detour to check out Amy’s Fiesta Mart, making a quick right down the closest street to change directions. I enter the brightly lit shop, crossing my fingers and hoping that perhaps they bake their own sweet buns.

They do not bake their own, but Amy's does have the next best thing: Aling Mary’s pandesal from Surrey.

Aling Mary’s Pandesal ($4.99 one dozen)

Fudge Yeah! - Kamloops, BC

It’s one of the hottest days of the summer and DL insists we need to get fudge today. Right now? “Fudge yeah!”

Fine.

As you know I don’t have much of a sweet tooth for super sweet things...like fudge, so this visit is all for DL. Aren’t I nice?

Left Field Cider Co. - Mamette Lake, BC (Merritt)

A few weeks ago I was driving along Mamit Lake Road where I came across a new sign that read, “Ciderhouse 1km.” What? There’s no cider house out here. The sign didn’t lie. One click later we drove by Left Field Cider Co. Interesting.

Walkers Toffee at The Bulk Barn - Kamloops, BC

The Bulk Barn was never on my list of Lets-Check-It-Out places until A.L. bumped into a Pal-o-Mine there earlier this year. I’m one of those people who isn’t completely comfortable with self-serve bulk foods. Does this surprise you? Please.

Yorkshire Gold Tea - Kamloops, BC

Is it June already? We are half way into 2012! I feel like the last six months went by like six weeks.
I went into London Drugs to pick up some contact solution. I came out with eighty dollars worth of other items, completely unrelated to contact lenses. How does this happen?
I spy that my favourite everyday tea is on sale, so I toss a few boxes of Yorkshire Gold Tea in my basket. Yorkshire Gold Tea is made by Taylors of Harrogate, and it is a lovely strong tea.

Yorkshire Gold Tea ($6.99* box of 80 bags)

Katryna's Perogy at Summit Gourmet Meats - Kamloops, BC

You like pierogi, and I like pyrohy.
Pierogi, pyrohy, perogy, pirogi
Let’s call the whole thing off.

No let’s not, because pierogi are tasty. (It’s late. Apologies to Gershwin lovers.)

Club Malz (malta drink) at Gary's Deli - Kamloops, BC

Another malt beverage find at Gary’s European Sausage and Deli! I make regular stops at Gary's for deli offerings, and malt drinks. On this particular day Gary’s Deli is out of Karamalz, but I spy Club Malz occupying its place inside the cooler. Let’s try!

Club Malz ($1.65)

Romania Country Bread (Storybrooke Bakery) - Steveston Village,BC

Once, or twice, Upon a Time...those two geeks are still in the fictional town of Storybrooke, Maine. When Steveston Village transforms for filming, the Romania Country Bread shop becomes Storybrooke Country Bread. The exterior signage for the fictional bakery remains up.

The Enchanted Teacup - Kamloops, BC

I met a princess in plain clothes today, and this is her castle.
Her castle is The Enchanted Teacup. It’s a drive-by discovery for me. I am on my way to Gary’s Deli when I see a purple and lime green building on Tranquille Road. Yes, purple and lime green.
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
