Gabriel's Cafe - Nanaimo, BC

Have you been gorging on berries like I have lately? For the past couple of weeks all I’ve been eating are blueberries and raspberries. I even took a pint of blueberries with me on the ferry for snacking. My tasks, appointments and meetings are expected to eat up all of my day in Nanaimo, so I grab a quick bite beforehand.

TJ's Bistro and Ice Cream Parlour - Logan Lake, BC

Happy August! I only know about TJ’s Bistro because a few years ago some friends were camping in Logan Lake, and wanted to have a non-campfire meal and “see the town.” TJ’s Bistro is located in the main shopping area in Logan Lake. It’s tucked into a courtyard of sorts, along with other retailers and the town’s supermarket. The “for sale” sign was up two years ago too.

Yaki Joe's Pizza - Merritt, BC

I’m here in Merritt for a tournament which runs all day, from 9:30am to 4:00pm. There was no time to eat in between, and I didn’t really want to eat during the tourney. Do I need to say that I am starving? Granola bars and oranges slices can only take me so far.

Yaki Joe’s Pizza is located on Voght Steet; just a few blocks in from Highway 97C (Nicola Avenue.) For some reason I always thought this was a sushi place. I guess I never really read the signage thoroughly.

Left Field Cider Co. - Mamette Lake, BC (Merritt)

A few weeks ago I was driving along Mamit Lake Road where I came across a new sign that read, “Ciderhouse 1km.” What? There’s no cider house out here. The sign didn’t lie. One click later we drove by Left Field Cider Co. Interesting.

The Cherry Pit Restaurant - Kelowna, BC

I’m looking for a big, brand-specific bag of mineral rock dust for my garden. The nursery folks in Kamloops advised me to check out the various feed stores for the 40 pound size bags. This is why I’m at Buckerfield’s Country Store today. (Bear with me, Buckerfield’s will be important later…)

The Cherry Pit Restaurant is a home style diner in Westbank. It is late in the morning, but any time is a good time for breakfast, no?

Sunrise Juice ($3.75)

Matterhorn Bakery - Kelowna, BC

I’m making a quick stop at the Matterhorn Bakery for a snack before continuing on with the day. I stumbled upon the Matterhorn Bakery when I took a wrong left turn and found myself in a labyrinth of retail shops, eateries and a movie theatre. There are a number of grey haired ladies entering and exiting the tea room so I figure, why not?

London Fog ($3.55)

Beijing Bina Cooking House - Kelowna, BC

Beijing Bina Cooking House is a Chinese restaurant that offers a bit more variety than the average Golden-Dragon-Lotus-Inn type place out here in the interior. Most notably, Bina’s focus is on Mandarin cuisine, with a sprinkling of Sichuan. However, if you’re still hankering for the Chop-Suey-Sweet-n’-Sours, Beijing Bina offers a westernized-Chinese take-out menu on the side too.

Gele/Gula Mountain Chili Chicken ($16.88)

T & Y Bubble Tea - Kelowna, BC

**UPDATE: It seems T & Y has vamoosed.**

Summer weather is finally here! I’m in Kelowna for a short stretch, and found myself downtown and thirsty. I discover T&Y Bubble Tea on Bernard Street on this hot evening.

Brambles Bakery & Cafe - Merritt, BC

I have to be out here again in Merritt in a few weeks time so I thought I’d do a drive through town to see what’s interesting. I love eateries that make their menu items from scratch. How quaint is this little gem we found out here in dusty Merritt, BC? It is called Brambles Bakery and Café.

Mount Paul Family Restaurant - Kamloops, BC

Well Canada Day long weekend is here and that means June is pretty much over. Where did this month go? I finally have a moment to look up, and now we’re gearing up for July. I’ll be trying to finish off some reports this morning, so I can have a weekend in which work is not looming over me.
